I love how Kenneth Branagh loves symmetry - Henry V vs Frankenstein
IFC vote St Crispin’s Day speech from Henry V 2nd best movie pep talk.
Long before he directed “Thor,” Kenneth Branagh adapted William Shakespeare’s words for the big screen. In “Henry V,” he delivered one of the finest war speeches ever written. Laurence Olivier brought the same speech to life in 1944, but Branagh’s version and the actors around him showed how dirty and fatigued his men were. “Braveheart” and “300” owe much to this legendary “band of brothers” moment.
Ken on Letterman (1991)
His description of the first rushes for Henry V is hilarious. Also a lovely appearance of the Belfast accent.

Kenneth Branagh 30 Day Challenge.
↳ Day Five: Your favourite Shakespearean adaptation?Henry V.
Deciding between Henry V and Hamlet is damn near impossible. But I managed it. Regardless of the backstory of its creation, the money, his youth, the book etc, it is a beautiful piece of cinema. It’s beautifully shot with excellent performances & Patrick Doyle’s soundtrack is flawless. The St. Crispin’s Day speech is one of my favourite things & if I’m completely honest, I think it shits all over Lawrence Olivier’s version. Ken’s Harry has more life, more passion, more spirit. & how can I forget that simply amazing scene walking across the battle field with a tiny Christian Bale over his shoulder to Non Nobis, Domine for a full five minute tracking shot. I also think the standard of cast he attracted for his first film is outstanding & demonstrates how well respected he is amongst his fellow actors.
